Antique Caucasian Blue 1890s Rug, Circa Date: 1890s. This exceptional example of a Caucasian weaving tradition showcases the robust, highly stylized geometry characteristic of the region’s finest nomadic production.
Rendered in a desirable runner format, this piece is ideally suited for long transitional spaces, classifying it among our finest hallway runner rugs. The central field is dominated by a deep, saturated indigo, providing a striking backdrop that exemplifies the power of blue color rugs in traditional settings.
The design features a tightly packed, repeating sequence of stylized zoomorphic or amuletic motifs, arranged in vertical columns. This dense, continuous repetition creates a powerful allover design that draws the eye down the length of the carpet, framed by borders of alternating zigzags and serrated leaves in rich madder red.
Dating to the late 19th century, the rug exhibits the authentic patina and enduring quality expected of pieces from this era. It remains a superb collector’s item, representing the enduring legacy of antique rugs crafted with exceptional tribal artistry.
