Antique Caucasian – Kuba Caucasian Geometric Rug, Country of Origin: Caucasus, Circa Date: 1890s. This exceptional late 19th-century weaving hails from the northeastern region of the Caucasus, embodying the robust, highly detailed aesthetic characteristic of Caucasian rugs.
Woven in a long, narrow format, this piece serves as a superb example of the traditional nomadic weaving that often created functional textiles suitable for tents or long corridors. The dimensions make it perfectly suited for contemporary interiors seeking authentic, high-impact hallway runner rugs.
The field is dominated by a series of powerful, stepped medallions rendered in rich madder red, deep indigo, and ivory. The design is purely abstract, relying on angular forms and tribal symbols, cementing its place among the finest examples of antique geometric rugs.
The fine knotting and saturated natural dyes speak to the high quality of Kuba production during this period. Preserved in remarkable condition for its age, this piece offers a rare opportunity to acquire a museum-quality example within the category of collectible antique rugs.
