Antique Sultanabad Room Size Wool Rug, Country of Origin: Iran / Persia, Circa Date: 1890s. This exceptional example of Sultanabad rugs represents the pinnacle of late 19th-century weaving, highly sought after by collectors of antique rugs.
The expansive field is rendered in a sublime, faded celadon green, a sophisticated deviation from the typical deep tones of the period. This pale ground serves as a canvas for the large-scale, meandering vine work and stylized palmettes characteristic of floral rugs from the Arak region.
Anchoring the composition is a magnificent, stepped central medallion, articulated in rich madder red and muted indigo. The generous proportions classify this piece as a true room size rugs, ideal for defining the primary living space within a grand interior.
The broad, multiple-guard border system reinforces the palette, featuring dense, repeating boteh and floral sprays set against a rich, oxidized burgundy ground. Exhibiting the gentle patina and softened wool pile expected of a piece from the 1890s, this Sultanabad offers both historical integrity and enduring decorative appeal.
Condition: Good.
