Antique Serapi Persian Wool Hand Knotted Pile Rug, Country of Origin: Iran Persia, Circa Date: 1890s. This exceptional late 19th-century weaving represents the pinnacle of village production from the Heriz region of Northwest Persian rugs. The Serapi designation refers to the highest quality, most finely knotted examples of this highly sought-after style, distinguishing them from standard Serapi rugs.
The commanding field is defined by a rich, oxidized madder red, providing a striking contrast to the detailed accents that delineate the bold central medallion. The structure of the design, while grand and formal, retains the charming asymmetry characteristic of true antique rugs crafted outside of court workshops.

The wool foundation exhibits a magnificent patina consistent with its age, showcasing the natural vegetable dyes that have mellowed beautifully over more than a century. This Serapi is a testament to the enduring quality of 19th-century Iranian craftsmanship, offering both historical depth and unparalleled decorative value for the discerning collector.
