A late 19th-century Persian Malayer carpet from around 1890, measuring approximately 365.9 × 426.9 cm (about 12’0″ × 14’0″). Per the original ARS catalog notes, this piece carries an unusual allover palmette and leaf pattern — a Malayer specialty — on a navy ground, with a subtle three-dimensional effect of leaves crossing over one another. The rendition is angular rather than curvilinear, indicating that the weavers worked without a scale-paper cartoon, in the village manner. The orange-red turtle-palmette border is smaller in scale and more traditional than the original creative field.

Hand-knotted wool. Authentic one-of-a-kind antique village carpet.
