Antique N. Persian Large Room Size Wool Dark Rug, Circa Date: 1775. This exceptional textile is a rare survival from the late 18th century, demonstrating the deep weaving traditions of Northern Persia. Its dense, all-over field pattern, executed in rich wool, places it among the finest examples of antique rugs from this period.
The primary field is dominated by a deep, saturated indigo, providing a dramatic backdrop for the stylized palmettes and rosettes. The palette is carefully restrained, utilizing cochineal reds and soft accents of cream and muted tones, classifying it among desirable earth tone color rugs.
A strong, rust-red main border frames the composition, featuring repeating geometric medallions interspersed with minor guard borders displaying intricate vine work. The overall design achieves a harmonious balance between the complexity of the densely woven field and the structured formality of the frame.
Given its exceptional age and remarkable preservation, this rug represents a significant acquisition for collectors. Its generous dimensions make it a prime example among room size rugs, offering both historical depth and functional elegance suitable for a grand interior.
