A one-of-a-kind early 20th-century Caucasian Karabagh carpet from around 1900, measuring approximately 91.6 × 213.4 cm (about 3’6″ × 7’2″). The rug is built on a pale sky-blue field with an ivory border — a softer color register than is typical for Caucasian tribal weaving, and one that suits this size’s natural use as an accent runner or an entry-area rug.
Karabagh is a historic weaving region on the eastern edge of the southern Caucasus, and Karabagh carpets in this format from the late 19th and early 20th centuries are recognized for their angular geometric compositions and durable hand-spun wool foundations.
