Antique Kashan – Silk Small Scatter Size Wool Coral Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This exceptional Persian weaving exemplifies the technical mastery associated with Kashan rugs of the early 20th century, combining luxurious materials with a highly sophisticated design sensibility.
Woven primarily in fine wool with lustrous silk highlights, the texture enhances the dramatic color shift. The field utilizes a muted, silvery-slate blue, providing a striking backdrop for the exuberant palette of salmon, magenta, and true coral. This piece stands out among typical coral color rugs due to its unusual, saturated contrast.
The design features a delicate, all-over pattern of scrolling vines and stylized blossoms, characteristic of traditional Persian garden compositions. A small, defined central medallion anchors the composition, surrounded by intricate sprays of floral rugs motifs that extend gracefully toward the borders.
Despite its age, this piece retains remarkable clarity and saturation. Its small scatter size makes it highly versatile for placement in foyers or intimate spaces where a jewel-tone accent is desired. As a prime example of early 20th-century Persian textile art, this weaving is a desirable addition to any collection of fine antique rugs.
