Antique Bidjar Persian Knotted Rug, Circa Date: 1860s. This exceptional piece represents the finest tradition of antique Persian Bidjar weaving, known for its incredible density and robust construction. Dating back to the mid-19th century, this is a truly rare example among antique rugs of this provenance. Size 5’6″ x 13’4″ Format: rectangular, longer and narrow

The vibrant palette centers on a rich, saturated field of deep red, beautifully contrasted by deep indigo and ivory accents in the intricate detailing. The striking red field color provides warmth and intensity that has matured gracefully over more than 160 years.

Despite its age, the wool retains remarkable luster and pile height, a testament to the quality of the original materials and the famous “iron rug” structure. The dense composition features repeating geometricized floral rugs across the field and borders, executed with the bold, graphic precision typical of this style.

Its dimensions suggest versatility, making it an ideal choice for a grand entrance or as an extended hallway runner where durability is paramount. This Bidjar rug is not merely a floor covering but a significant textile artifact, offering a tangible link to the complex trade routes and artistic exchanges of the Victorian era.

Condition: Good.
