Antique Baluch Persian Geometric Red 1920s Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This striking Baluch piece presents a dense, all-over geometric field composed of interlocking diamond medallions. The design is characteristic of the tribal weaving traditions found among the Baluch people, known for their deeply saturated red palettes and intricate, repetitive motifs.
The palette relies on a rich, earthy red. This specific hue provides a warm, visceral depth, typical of the finest natural dyes used in these weavings. Collectors often seek out this compelling red color for its ability to anchor a space with historical gravity.
Woven nearly a century ago, the rug exhibits the desirable patina and soft handle expected of genuine antique rugs. The borders feature secondary geometric elements that frame the central field, providing a visual transition that is both complex and highly disciplined, reflecting the weaver’s skill and dedication to tradition.
Measuring in a desirable small scatter size, this Baluch rug is perfectly suited for use in hallways, entryways, or as an accent piece in a study. Its robust construction and enduring tribal aesthetic ensure it remains a powerful, yet manageable, statement of nomadic art.
