Antique Large Bakhtiari Persian Geometric Knotted Rug, Circa Date: 1890s. This exceptional example of nomadic Persian weaving captures the robust artistry characteristic of the Bakhtiari tradition. Its composition features bold, vertically aligned medallions, rendered with a striking geometric precision that defines the piece. This is a superb addition to any collection of antique rugs.
The palette is grounded by a rare, saturated camel field, providing a warm, earthy canvas for the complex array of motifs. This rich, natural dye work utilizes deep madder reds, brilliant indigo, and saffron yellow, creating a dynamic contrast, characteristic of brown earth tone color rugs.
The design eschews the typical Khesti garden panel layout for a more centralized, repeating pattern of stylized palmettes and rosettes. These motifs are framed by a powerful, broad main border featuring repeating cartouches and vine work set against a vibrant cobalt blue ground, perfectly balancing the warmth of the central field.
Woven entirely from high-quality, hand-spun wool, this piece exhibits the durable construction and resilient pile expected of late 19th-century tribal workshop production. Given its impressive scale and detailed craftsmanship, this Bakhtiari rug is ideally suited for grand interiors requiring room size rugs of historical significance.
