Antique Chinese Ningxia Hallway Runner Wool Yellow Rug, Circa Date: 1850s. This exceptional example of 19th-century weaving hails from the Ningxia region, renowned for its distinctive imperial palette and symbolic designs. Pieces of this age and condition are highly sought after by collectors of fine antique rugs.
The wool pile exhibits a magnificent, aged patina, dominated by a rich yellow field that has mellowed beautifully over time. This luminous hue, often associated with imperial power and prosperity in Chinese culture, provides a striking contrast to the dark motifs, placing it firmly within the category of yellow color rugs.
Structurally, the rug is configured as a sequence of repeating rectangular medallions, each centered by a dark, stylized Yin-Yang symbol, framed by a continuous meander pattern. Its elongated dimensions make it an ideal selection among hallway runner rugs, perfectly suited to define and guide movement through a long corridor or gallery space.
While the design is compartmentalized, the consistent repetition of the framed motif creates a powerful visual rhythm, giving the piece the continuous flow characteristic of an allover pattern. This runner is a rare and compelling artifact, blending profound Taoist symbolism with the restrained elegance of late Qing Dynasty textile art.
