Antique Caucasian – Karabagh Hallway Runner Wool Brown Rug, Circa Date: 1930s. This exceptional piece represents the enduring textile artistry of the Caucasus region, specifically the tradition of karabagh rugs. Woven entirely of high-quality wool, this runner exhibits the robust construction and bold, geometric motifs characteristic of early 20th-century antique rugs.
The field is anchored by a rich, nearly black-brown tone, providing a dramatic contrast to the vibrant terracotta, ivory, and deep crimson elements. The sophisticated use of this deep, saturated brown earth tone color creates a grounding effect that is both versatile and powerful in modern interiors. Its elongated dimensions make it an ideal choice for defining grand corridors or gallery spaces.
The design utilizes a highly stylized, repeating pattern of large palmettes and stylized figures, creating a complex visual rhythm. This dense arrangement is a prime example of an allover design, where the pattern repeats continuously across the field without a central medallion, maximizing visual impact along the entire length of the piece.
Functionally, this piece is classified as a hallway runner rug, perfectly suited to define and elongate a transitional space while providing exceptional durability. Its age and excellent preservation make it not merely a floor covering, but a collectible artifact that brings warmth, history, and unmistakable character to any home.
