Wide Gallery Rugs (6.02ft x 16.06ft), Circa Date: 1890s. This magnificent example of late 19th-century weaving represents the finest traditions of antique rugs. Its deeply saturated wool pile and finely rendered design speak to the exceptional craftsmanship inherent in pieces from this prolific period.
The primary field is dominated by a rich, midnight indigo, providing a dramatic backdrop for the complex ornamentation. This striking use of the blue color rugs palette emphasizes the golden-ochre and soft terracotta tones of the secondary motifs, creating a shimmering, textural effect that shifts subtly under changing light.
Characterized by its dense, repeating botanical elements, the design employs an intricate lattice structure. This continuous, non-medallion structure, known as an allover pattern, ensures visual flow and balance across the entire surface of the textile, allowing the eye to travel freely without interruption.
The rug’s substantial dimensions classify it among the most desirable room size rugs of its era. Its sophisticated coloration and historical provenance make it an ideal anchor piece for a grand hall or formal receiving area, offering both warmth and unparalleled historical depth to any interior design scheme.
Condition: Good.
