Antique Large Tabriz Persian Allover Knotted Rug, Circa Date: 1890s. This exceptional Persian piece from the late Qajar era exemplifies the refined weaving tradition of Tabriz. Its expansive field is characterized by a sophisticated allover design, eschewing a central medallion for a continuous, flowing pattern of stylized palmettes and delicate vine work.
The palette is remarkably subtle, featuring a soft oatmeal ground that provides a canvas for faded terracotta, pale indigo, and lavender accents. This gentle wash of color is characteristic of highly sought-after antique rugs that have achieved a patina through decades of careful use, lending the piece an air of quiet history and elegance.
The precision of the knotting allows the intricate details of the classical Persian motifs to remain legible despite the overall softening of the wool. The complex border system frames the field with multiple guard bands, repeating the central colors in a structured, rhythmic counterpoint to the fluidity of the main design.
As a large oversized rug, this Tabriz offers significant scale, making it an ideal anchor for grand reception rooms or formal dining areas. It represents not merely a floor covering, but a substantial piece of textile architecture, offering a foundational element of enduring Persian artistry suitable for the most discerning contemporary or traditional setting.
Condition: Good.
