Antique Bakhtiari Large Room Size Wool Ivory Rug, Country of Origin: Iran / Persia, Circa Date: 1900s. This magnificent example of early 20th-century weaving represents the robust artistry inherent in pieces of Persian origin. The Bakhtiari tribes are renowned for their durable, hand-spun wool and distinctive, compartmentalized designs.
The field is dominated by a powerful, stepped central medallion rendered in deep indigo, terracotta red, and ochre, contrasting sharply against the luminous ground typical of ivory color rugs. This complex arrangement of color and form showcases the weaver’s mastery of natural dyes and traditional regional palette.
Characteristic of the region’s output, the wool pile is dense and resilient, ensuring exceptional longevity and wearability. Its generous proportions classify it as a large room size piece, ideal for anchoring a major living space or formal dining area with historical gravitas and warmth.
The overall structure adheres closely to traditional geometric patterns, utilizing repeating diamond and hexagonal motifs that frame the central axis with precision. As a superb example among our collection of antique rugs, this Bakhtiari piece offers both exceptional decorative appeal and a tangible connection to the rich textile history of the Zagros Mountains.
