Antique Kerman Persian Allover Knotted Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This exceptional Persian Kerman exemplifies the refined artistry inherent in antique rugs of the early 20th century. Its dense, sophisticated composition features an allover scattering of traditional motifs, rendered with remarkable precision.
The field is dominated by a rich, deeply saturated indigo, which has mellowed beautifully over time to a sophisticated slate tone, characteristic of fine blue color rugs. Against this backdrop, stylized floral sprays, elaborate palmettes, and graceful boteh forms emerge in soft hues of blush, ivory, and taupe.
The design avoids a central medallion, instead utilizing a highly detailed, repeating pattern that incorporates architectural elements, such as stylized vases and domed structures, interspersed among the botanical elements. The complex, multi-layered primary border frames the central design with geometric cartouches and delicate guard stripes, echoing the subtle color shifts of the main field.
Measuring a substantial size, this piece functions perfectly as a foundational element in a grand interior setting, making it ideal among room size rugs. The quality of the wool and the tight knotting ensure durability, making this Kerman a lasting testament to the enduring legacy of Persian weaving traditions.
Condition: Good.
