Antique Afshar Persian Blue 1930s Rug, Circa Date: 1930s. This exceptional tribal weaving hails from the Afshar region of Persia, known for producing durable, finely knotted antique rugs that capture the robust aesthetic of nomadic life. The piece showcases the characteristic boldness and precision associated with these South Persian workshops.
The mesmerizing field is dominated by a rich, saturated indigo, providing a dramatic backdrop for the highly stylized medallions. This deep blue color rugs palette is typical of Afshar production, utilizing natural dyes that have matured beautifully over the last century, yielding a sophisticated, almost velvety patina.
The central design features repeating, shield-like geometric devices, meticulously outlined in ivory and filled with striking terracotta red. This dense, repeating structure forms a classic allover rugs composition, ensuring visual balance and allowing the eye to travel across the entire surface without interruption.
This rug is ideally suited for use as a striking accent piece in an entryway, hallway, or beside a bed. Such small scatter size rugs are highly sought after for their versatility and ability to introduce genuine tribal history and rich color into contemporary interiors.
