A large antique Persian Ziegler Sultanabad rug, The rug presents a saturated red and blue central field framed by a tan-toned border, the kind of warm, decorative color combination that has made Ziegler Sultanabads continuously sought after by interior designers for over a century.
Sultanabad was an active rug-weaving region in west-central Persia (now Iran) in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The “Ziegler” name refers to the Manchester-based firm Ziegler & Co., which from the 1880s onward commissioned looms in Sultanabad to produce large-scale carpets calibrated to the proportions and softer Western color palettes favored by European and American homes of that period. Ziegler-style Sultanabads remain among the most identifiable and widely collected formats of antique Persian decorative carpets.
This is an authentic antique example, offered as-is, with the natural patina expected of a piece of this age and provenance.
