Antique Peking Chinese Floral, Geometric Knotted Rug, Circa Date: 1900s. This exquisite example of early 20th-century Chinese weaving represents the pinnacle of the Peking style, known for its refined palette and balanced composition. It is a stunning piece among our collection of antique rugs.
The deeply saturated field is rendered in a rich indigo, providing a dramatic backdrop for the scattered motifs. The use of this vibrant shade is characteristic of the period, often contrasted sharply with soft beige and subtle light blue accents found in the design elements, making it a powerful example among blue color rugs.
The design features a delicate dispersion of stylized floral sprays, vases, and auspicious butterflies, all orbiting a highly detailed central medallion depicting traditional Chinese symbols and architecture. The sophisticated interplay between the organic forms of the blossoms and the strict geometric borders is masterful, demonstrating exceptional technical skill.
A complex series of borders frames the composition, incorporating the classic Greek key meander pattern alongside scrolling vines. Given its scale and commanding presence, this piece is perfectly suited as a sophisticated centerpiece among room size rugs, offering historical depth and visual tranquility to any interior.
