Antique Chinese Room Size Wool Blue Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This exceptional example of early 20th-century Chinese weaving captures the essence of the Art Deco export period. The generous dimensions classify it among highly sought-after room size rugs, designed to anchor the grand salons of the era.
The palette is defined by a dramatic contrast: a rich, almost midnight indigo field provides a velvety backdrop for the vibrant, luminous yellow-green border. This sophisticated use of deep hues places it firmly within the category of desirable blue color rugs, offering depth and tranquility to any interior space.
Traditional Chinese symbolism is rendered with a delicate, minimalist hand. Scattered floral sprays, stylized vases, and auspicious objects float across the dark expanse, emphasizing the vast, open quality of the field—a signature characteristic of the finest Peking productions from this decade.
Woven entirely in high-quality wool, this piece retains a luxurious pile and a remarkable saturation of color, testifying to its careful preservation over the last century. Such well-maintained examples are increasingly rare finds among genuine antique rugs and represent a significant acquisition for the discerning collector.
