Antique Kurdish Persian Blue 1900s Rug, Circa Date: 1900s. This exceptional tribal weaving originates from the border regions of Kurdistan, displaying the robust geometric vocabulary characteristic of early 20th-century nomadic production. The deep, saturated indigo field provides a dramatic backdrop for the stylized motifs, anchoring the piece in the tradition of blue color rugs.
The central field features a dense, repeating pattern of highly abstracted forms, often interpreted as stylized houses or protective totems, rendered in warm terracotta and ivory. This dense arrangement creates a captivating visual texture that defines the aesthetic of allover rugs, eschewing a central medallion in favor of continuous, rhythmic design.
Multiple, narrow guard borders frame the central panel, each filled with intricate, repeating geometric symbols such as eight-pointed stars and serrated diamonds. The wool quality suggests durable, hand-spun material, typical of pieces intended for daily use and reflecting the authentic artistry found in antique rugs.
Retaining excellent color integrity and a charming patina earned over a century of use, this piece offers a profound connection to the weaving history of Western Persia. Its dimensions make it an ideal accent piece, perfectly suited for entryways or intimate spaces among small scatter size rugs.
