Antique Art Deco Room Size Wool Fuschia, Navy Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This exceptional example of Chinese Art Deco weaving presents a bold, saturated palette perfectly suited for contemporary interiors. Its substantial dimensions classify it among desirable room size rugs, offering a commanding presence ideal for a grand living space or formal dining room.
The expansive field is rendered in a rich, almost inky navy blue, providing a dramatic backdrop for the stylized motifs. This deep hue, characteristic of sophisticated blue color rugs from the period, emphasizes the luxurious, thick wool pile. The minimal central design allows the color saturation to take precedence, creating an atmosphere of restrained elegance.
A striking contrast is established by the wide, fuschia-toned border, which frames the composition with vibrant warmth. Traditional Chinese iconography—including flowering branches, auspicious birds, and hanging lanterns—is scattered asymmetrically across the corners and edges, rendered in soft apricot, gold, and pale green accents.
Originating during a period when Western Art Deco sensibilities merged with traditional Eastern craftsmanship, this piece exemplifies the artistic innovation of the 1920s. Its enduring quality and distinctive aesthetic ensure its status among highly sought-after antique rugs that transcend mere floor coverings to become foundational elements of design history.
