Antique American Rag Rug Room Size Wool Multicolor, Circa Date: 1920s. This exceptional example of an American Rag Rug embodies the resourceful textile traditions of early 20th-century America. Woven entirely from strips of repurposed wool fabric, the construction results in a durable, textural surface.
The structure is defined by its horizontal, tightly packed bands of color, creating a striking linear movement across the floor plane. The absence of a central medallion or defined border emphasizes the continuous, rhythmic quality of the allover design, lending it a distinctly modern sensibility.
Despite the inherent simplicity of the weaving technique, the rug presents a complex multicolor palette derived from the varied source materials. Hues range from soft creams and tans to deep reds, blues, and greens, which blend together beautifully in this substantial room size format, ensuring versatility in placement.
As a piece of textile history, this rug offers a unique blend of folk art charm and functional durability. It stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of handcrafted textiles and is a compelling addition to our collection of exceptional antique rugs.
