Antique American Purple Allover Geometric Quilt: a quilt made in the United States, 40 x 54 inches (3’4″ x 4’6″). It is pieced from fabric and quilted through to a backing, not knotted or woven like a rug. Quilts like this were made as bed coverings; today they are hung as textile art or used as a throw or bed topper. Because it is a textile, we do not recommend it for use on the floor.
The meticulous hand-stitching and patchwork construction confirm its identity as this unique quilt, elevating it beyond mere utility to the realm of collectible fiber art.
The design utilizes a sophisticated contrast of black and vibrant purple, arranged in a repeating star and checkerboard motif. This powerful visual rhythm creates an allover geometric design that commands attention.
The coloration is particularly noteworthy, utilizing a rich, saturated purple set against deep black. This high-contrast pairing ensures the piece functions beautifully as a focal point, introducing a dramatic element into any interior setting. The depth of the dye work places this piece firmly within the category of multicolor jewel tone textiles, offering a richness that transcends simple primary colors.
Originally intended as a bed covering, the sturdy construction and compelling pattern allow this piece to be displayed effectively as wall art or utilized as a decorative element in a low-traffic area.
Condition: Good.
