1920s Blue Rectangle Hand Knotted Pile Antique Allover Floral Wool Carpet This magnificent piece, hand-knotted from luxurious wool, represents the peak of early 20th-century decorative weaving. The exceptional quality and preservation make it a significant example among antique rugs of the Art Deco era, seamlessly blending traditional craftsmanship with modern scale.
The primary palette is dominated by a striking, deep blue color that anchors the composition, providing a sense of profound depth and richness. This saturated hue offers a dramatic contrast to the expansive, highly stylized border rendered in brilliant gold and ochre tones, punctuated by delicate accents of pale pink and teal within the decorative cartouches.
While the border employs classical Chinese foliate and floral motifs, the main field maintains a disciplined elegance. The subtle, textural design utilizes an allover pattern of scrolling leaves that recedes slightly into the field, allowing the bold structure of the frame to define the perimeter without overpowering the central space.
Given its generous proportions (8.09ft x 11.02ft), this piece is ideally suited for placement as a central feature in a grand living area or formal dining room. The substantial size ensures that it functions effectively as a room size rug, providing both warmth and a strong architectural foundation for sophisticated interior design schemes.
