Antique Large Sivas Turkish Knotted Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This exceptional piece originates from Sivas, a renowned weaving center in Anatolia celebrated for producing finely knotted carpets designed for the Western market. Its scale and sophisticated design confirm its status as a premier example of antique rugs from the early 20th century.
The palette is remarkably restrained, utilizing a soft, luminous ground that falls into the desirable category of ivory beige cream rugs. Subtle accents of dusty rose, pale indigo, and taupe are woven into the intricate field, creating a gentle, harmonious patina that only decades of careful use can achieve.
The central composition features a highly stylized medallion, though the density of the all-over design allows the eye to wander across the field. The complex interplay of vines, palmettes, and rosettes is characteristic of the finest Turkish weaving, presenting a masterful display of classic floral motifs.
Measuring generously, this large oversized rug is ideally suited to anchor a substantial living area or formal dining room, providing a foundation of quiet elegance. Its substantial size and refined craftsmanship ensure it remains a timeless statement piece, embodying the enduring artistry of the Sivas workshop.
