Antique Baluch Persian Allover Geometric Knotted Rug, Circa Date: 1880s. This exceptional tribal piece exemplifies the finest traditions of Baluch weaving, characterized by its deeply saturated dyes and dense, repeating geometric field. The nomadic origins of these antique rugs are evident in the robust construction and the highly stylized, abstract motifs that cover the entire surface.
The palette is dominated by a rich, nearly black indigo ground, providing a dramatic contrast for the intricate lattice of diamonds and lozenges. Accents of deep madder red and rust, along with subtle touches of pale blue, define the complex allover pattern. The striking border utilizes a vibrant coral pink color that frames the central field with intensity.
Woven with tightly spun wool and exhibiting the characteristic fine, depressed warp structure typical of the Baluch tradition, this rug possesses a remarkable tactile quality. The natural dye usage has resulted in subtle abrashes, lending depth and authenticity to the century-old textile.
Retaining excellent pile height for its age, this piece displays a beautiful, soft patina achieved only through generations of careful use. Its dimensions categorize it perfectly among scatter size rugs, making it an ideal accent piece for an entryway, study, or layered over a larger floor covering, offering a powerful statement of tribal artistry.
Condition: Good.
