Antique Bibikabad Persian Geometric Knotted Rug, Circa Date: 1880s. This exceptional late 19th-century weaving represents the high standards of the Hamadan region, known for its durable structure and distinctive, highly stylized designs. It is a superb example of the finest antique rugs produced in Western Persia.
The palette utilizes rich, naturally dyed wools, centered on a nuanced interplay of deep umber and cream. The overall effect is grounded and sophisticated, relying heavily on a brown earth tone foundation that allows the sporadic accents of soft teal and madder red to truly resonate across the field.
The central field’s repeating geometric pattern, which evokes stylized cypress trees or palmettes, is expertly contained by a robust main border rendered in a vibrant terracotta hue. This frame features bold, alternating cartouches and floral sprays, providing a necessary visual contrast to the dense complexity of the interior design.
The meticulous knotting and expert use of color define this piece’s enduring quality. Given its substantial dimensions and robust weave, this Bibikabad is an ideal choice among room size rugs, capable of anchoring a grand living space with historical depth and enduring style.
