Antique American Hooked Usa Allover Geometric Wool 1900s Square Rug, Country of Origin: American USA Rugs, Circa Date: 1900s. This exceptional textile represents the finest folk art tradition found among American USA Rugs during the early 20th century. The robust wool construction and hand-hooked technique create a unique texture, distinguishing it from machine-made pile carpets of the era and lending it an appealingly abstract quality.
The dense, looped surface characteristic of the American hooked rug style lends itself perfectly to the abstracted geometric design of this square piece. This piece utilizes an allover rug composition, where interlocking quatrefoil motifs repeat seamlessly across the field, minimizing the need for a defined border and maximizing the visual impact of the textured surface.
The palette is strikingly modern, featuring a complex interplay of variegated yarns in soft creams, taupes, and muted earth tones, punctuated by hints of slate blue and rose. The subtle striations within the wool loops enhance the movement of the pattern. Furthermore, its substantial square dimensions classify it as a true room size rug, ideal for anchoring a sophisticated living space or library.
Far exceeding the typical domestic hooked mat, this square piece is a sophisticated example of textile art, demonstrating a masterful handling of color and form. It remains in superb condition, offering collectors a rare opportunity to acquire a unique piece of early 20th-century Americana, perfectly complementing our curated selection of antique rugs.
