Antique American Blue Quilt: a quilt made in the United States, 48 x 67 inches (4′ x 5’7″). It is pieced from fabric and quilted through to a backing, not knotted or woven like a rug. Quilts like this were made as bed coverings; today they are hung as textile art or used as a throw or bed topper. Because it is a textile, we do not recommend it for use on the floor.
The design immediately draws the eye with its folk art sensibility and structured composition.
The palette is remarkably fresh and restrained, utilizing a crisp white ground that allows the central motifs to float weightlessly. A soft, pale blue frames the composition, emphasizing the overall tranquility of the design. This charming piece is an ideal accent for a sophisticated interior seeking the calming influence of blue color textiles.
The central field features a striking arrangement of four large diamond-shaped medallions, each constructed from smaller, highly defined octagonal and square units. The contrast between the vibrant cobalt blue elements and the lighter, checked pastel tones creates a dynamic visual rhythm, confirming its place among exemplary geometric textiles.
Condition: Good.
