A 19th-century Persian Khorassan Moud carpet from around 1870, measuring approximately 396.3 × 609.7 cm (about 13’0″ × 20’0″). The composition is a finely drawn allover floral design over a blue ground, framed by a rose-toned border — a particularly refined color and design register for a Khorassan piece of this scale.
Moud is a village in the Khorassan province of northeastern Persia (now Iran), historically known for one of the finest knot counts in Persian carpet production. Moud carpets are typically built around small-scale repeating floral and herati vocabularies, executed at very high knot densities on cotton foundations.
