Antique Oversized Serab Persian Knotted Rug, Country of Origin: Iran / Persia, Circa Date: 1880s. This exceptional piece represents the finest weaving tradition of the serab region. Serab rugs are renowned for their durable construction and distinctive, elongated formats, often serving as prestigious gallery runners in grand homes throughout the late 19th century.
The expansive central field is rendered in a soft, luminous tone, characteristic of ivory beige cream coloration. This neutral expanse is subtly articulated by a delicate, repeating geometric lattice pattern, minimizing visual clutter and maximizing the sense of space. The use of natural dyes ensures a rich patina that only deepens with age.
Measuring significantly longer than typical room-sized carpets, this is a true large oversized big rug. Its impressive scale makes it perfectly suited for defining long hallways, galleries, or sophisticated open-plan living areas. The narrow width relative to its length emphasizes the architectural flow of the space it inhabits.
A striking contrast is provided by the deep indigo main border, which frames the light field with stylized floral and geometric medallions in muted earth tones and soft blues. This piece is a testament to the enduring quality of Iranian Persian rugs, offering both historical provenance and timeless design.
