Antique Ningxia Chinese Geometric Knotted Rug, Circa Date: 1890s. This exceptional late Qing Dynasty piece exemplifies the restrained elegance characteristic of the finest antique rugs from the region. The design relies on a highly structured, centralized layout, typical of courtly Chinese textiles.

The composition is defined by a striking contrast between the deep indigo borders and the luminous ivory ground of the field. Four large, stylized medallions, rendered in varying shades of blue and tan, anchor the vertical axis, interspersed with delicate sprigs of coral-colored blossoms.

Ningxia weaving often showcases a sophisticated use of abstract and symbolic forms, and this example is no exception. The medallions themselves are complex geometric matrices, featuring interlocking meander patterns and stylized cloud bands that speak to traditional Chinese iconography.

Retaining excellent color saturation and a soft, pliable handle, this antique textile is perfectly suited for display. Its compact dimensions classify it as a desirable small scatter size, offering a powerful historical statement without dominating a room.

Condition: Good.
