Antique N. Persian Knotted Rug, Circa Date: 1850s. This exceptional example of 19th-century weaving represents the pinnacle of classical Persian design. Its sophisticated palette and intricate knotting place it among the finest antique rugs of the Qajar era.
The field is characterized by a tightly rendered, repeating millefleur design, eschewing a central medallion for a continuous, flowing composition. This dense arrangement creates a mesmerizing texture across the surface, typical of desirable allover rugs that integrate seamlessly into diverse interior spaces.
The masterful use of natural dyes is evident in the subdued, complex coloration. Deep indigo and slate tones form the ground, providing a dramatic counterpoint to the oxidized rust and terracotta hues of the secondary motifs. The subtle presence of aged blue color rugs provides depth and gravitas to the overall composition.
Having achieved a magnificent patina over its nearly two centuries of existence, this piece offers both historical resonance and practical utility. Its substantial dimensions ensure it functions perfectly as one of the grand room size rugs, anchoring a formal drawing room or library with unparalleled historical elegance.
Condition: Good.
