Antique Lahore Large Room Size Wool Blue Rug, Circa Date: 1930s. This exceptional example of early 20th-century weaving from Lahore presents a sophisticated palette and delicate structure characteristic of the finest antique rugs produced during the British Raj period.
The field features a mesmerizing wash of pale celadon and soft aqua, displaying natural abrash that shifts the tone across the surface, anchoring it firmly within the category of desirable blue color rugs. This cool background contrasts beautifully with the secondary motifs rendered in muted terracotta, blush, and ivory.
Typical of classical Lahore production, the design employs an intricate, graceful vine scroll system forming an allover design that repeats seamlessly across the expansive central plane. The density of the floral elements—including palmettes and delicate blossoms—ensures visual depth without relying on a central medallion.
Defined by a striking main border in oxidized salmon and rust tones, the rug retains a powerful presence despite its age-related patina. Its generous proportions classify it among the most sought-after room size rugs, perfectly suited to define a major living space or formal dining area.
