Antique Kurdish Persian Geometric Knotted Rug, Circa Date: 1900s. This exceptional example of tribal weaving showcases the robust aesthetic inherent in antique rugs from the region. The structure is defined by a dense, hand-knotted wool pile, typical of the sturdy textiles produced by nomadic Kurdish weavers.
The central field is dominated by a striking lattice of stacked diamond medallions, rendered in rich, naturally dyed hues. The interplay of deep madder, oxidized indigo, and warm tan creates a dramatic contrast against the dark ground, emphasizing the rug’s powerful brown earth tone color rugs palette.
A fascinating element of this piece is the highly stylized border, which frames the central geometry with a procession of abstracted zoomorphic figures. These archaic motifs, often interpreted as stylized bird rugs or animals, reflect the enduring symbolic language woven into Kurdish textiles, offering a glimpse into the weaver’s cultural narrative.
Retaining excellent character and patina commensurate with its age, this piece functions beautifully as a transitional accent. Its narrow proportion makes it an ideal candidate among small scatter size rugs, perfect for hallways, entryways, or intimate spaces where a powerful visual anchor is desired.
Condition: Good.
