A monumental late 19th-century Indian Agra carpet from around 1890, measuring approximately 335.3 × 883.9 cm (about 11’0″ × 29’0″). The composition pairs a celadon green field with a burgundy border in a geometric vocabulary — a distinctive cool-warm palette executed at gallery-corridor scale.
Agra, in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, has been a center of high-quality hand-knotted carpet production since the Mughal period of the 16th and 17th centuries. Agra carpets of the late 19th century were among the most respected room-sized antique carpets in the Western collecting market.
