A mid-19th-century Bessarabian flat-weave carpet from around 1850, measuring approximately 366.0 × 426.9 cm (about 12’0″ × 14’0″). The composition is an ivory-ground floral design — a particularly fresh and luminous color register for a Bessarabian piece of this scale and age.
Bessarabia is the historical name for a region between the Prut and Dniester rivers, today divided across Moldova and Ukraine.
