Antique American Hooked Square Rug Small Scatter Size Wool Multi, Country of Origin: American USA Rugs, Circa Date: 1930s. This charming hooked wool textile, dating to the 1930s, presents a sophisticated example of American folk art. Its compact square dimensions classify it as a desirable small scatter size, perfect for adding historic texture to an intimate space.
The central field is dominated by a complex, repeating star motif, executed with remarkable precision. The careful shading within each element creates a striking trompe l’oeil effect, giving the flat surface the illusion of three-dimensional depth, typical of fine geometric rugs. The palette, while grounded in neutrals, features subtle accents of deep red and indigo, resulting in a rich, yet restrained, multicolor jewel tone aesthetic.
The meticulous technique of the hooking ensures a dense, durable pile that has retained its structure over nearly a century. The pattern is contained by a dark, striated border that provides a strong visual anchor, emphasizing the quilt-like structure of the interior square design. This piece maintains the integrity of its original design and coloration, a testament to its careful preservation.
As a distinctive piece of American USA Rugs heritage, this square textile transcends mere floor covering, functioning as a collectible work of art. It offers a unique opportunity to incorporate the rustic elegance of the 1930s into contemporary design schemes. We are pleased to offer this exceptional example among our collection of antique rugs.
