Antique American Geometric Folk Art Square Quilt: a quilt made in the United States, 79 x 82 inches (6’7″ x 6’10”). It is pieced from fabric and quilted through to a backing, not knotted or woven like a rug. Quilts like this were made as bed coverings; today they are hung as textile art or used as a throw or bed topper. Because it is a textile, we do not recommend it for use on the floor.
The design is a masterful adaptation of the traditional American folk art aesthetic, specifically drawing inspiration from the patchwork technique. This rare quilt style Square quilt features a dynamic, concentric diamond motif that radiates outward from the center. The palette is rich and saturated, utilizing bold primary colors and deep secondary hues, creating a striking composition of multicolor jewel tones.
Unlike medallion compositions, this piece employs an intricate, repeating geometric structure, allowing the pattern to cover the entire field. The dense arrangement of diamonds forms a powerful allover pattern, lending the Square quilt a highly contemporary feel despite its age. The juxtaposition of navy, crimson, gold, and teal blocks creates a visual rhythm that is both energetic and balanced.
Condition: Good.
