Antique American Multicolor 1930s Quilt: a quilt made in the United States, 80 x 96 inches (6’8″ x 8′). It is pieced from fabric and quilted through to a backing, not knotted or woven like a rug. Quilts like this were made as bed coverings; today they are hung as textile art or used as a throw or bed topper. Because it is a textile, we do not recommend it for use on the floor.
This exceptional American textile piece captures the vibrant, homespun aesthetic of the Depression era. It is a rare example of the quilt style quilt, utilizing a highly graphic, block-based composition that immediately draws the eye.
The design employs a striking, concentric square arrangement built from countless small, checkerboard squares. The palette is distinctly robust, featuring deep reds, moss greens, blues, and black, punctuated by a central field of pink and black—a masterful use of multicolor jewel tone hues that define its spirited character.
While the composition is highly structured, the continuous flow of the geometric blocks across the surface creates an engaging allover pattern.
Measuring generously, this textile functions effectively as a vibrant statement piece, suitable for placement as a central focus in a living area or grand study.
