Antique Chinese – Mongolian Large Room Size Wool Ivory Rug, Circa Date: 1890s. This exceptional piece represents the refined aesthetic of late 19th-century weaving traditions from the region. Its striking simplicity and graphic use of color distinguish it among antique rugs of the period, offering a powerful visual statement that transcends its age.
The expansive, minimalist field is rendered in a soft, luminous tone, placing this piece among the most desirable ivory color rugs. This deliberate restraint in the primary color palette allows the deep indigo border to frame the composition with dramatic effect, highlighting the purity and quality of the hand-spun wool.
Characteristic of the finest Mongolian production, the design relies heavily on strong, angular lines. The central medallion and the complex, stepped border employ traditional Chinese fretwork patterns, placing this example firmly within the category of geometric rugs. The graphic contrast between the deep navy and the pale field creates an architectural presence.
With its generous dimensions, this textile is classified as one of our premier room size rugs, making it ideally suited for anchoring a primary living space or dining area. Its robust construction ensures lasting durability, while its timeless graphic quality integrates seamlessly into both traditional and highly contemporary interiors.
