A mid-20th-century Persian silk Souf Qum carpet from around 1940, measuring approximately 91.6 × 152.5 cm (about 3’0″ × 5’0″). The composition is a floral garden design over an ivory field, framed by a gold-toned border, woven entirely in silk in the Souf relief technique characteristic of the highest tier of Qum production.
The Souf technique uses raised silk pile in some areas and lower flat areas in others, producing a relief-like surface that is particularly prized among collectors of fine Persian silk carpets.
Hand-knotted silk, Souf relief technique. Authentic one-of-a-kind.
