A late 19th to early 20th-century Persian Malayer carpet from around 1900, measuring approximately 335.5 × 487.8 cm (about 11’0″ × 16’0″). The composition pairs a slate field with a light blue border — a cooler, more sophisticated color register than the saturated reds and indigos more commonly seen in Malayer village production.
Malayer is a town in the Hamadan province of west-central Persia (now Iran), and Malayer village carpets in this scale combine vocabularies borrowed from neighboring formal centers with the looser hand of village production.
Hand-knotted wool. Authentic one-of-a-kind antique.
