A late 19th-century Central Asian Ersari carpet from around 1890, measuring approximately 152.7 × 335.5 cm (about 5’0″ × 11’0″). The composition is a red diamond pattern over a saturated red field, framed by a red-rust border — a deep all-red color register characteristic of Turkmen tribal weaving.
The Ersari are one of the major Turkmen tribal confederations, historically inhabiting the area along the Amu Darya river — today divided across Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and parts of northern Afghanistan, and historically governed under the Russian Empire. Ersari carpets are recognized for bold geometric güls and for the durable hand-spun wool yarns characteristic of nomadic Turkmen production.
Hand-knotted wool. Authentic one-of-a-kind antique tribal carpet.
