Antique American 1920s Square Multicolor Jewel Tones Allover Geometric Quilt: a quilt made in the United States, 65 x 72 inches (5’5″ x 6′). It is pieced from fabric and quilted through to a backing, not knotted or woven like a rug. Quilts like this were made as bed coverings; today they are hung as textile art or used as a throw or bed topper. Because it is a textile, we do not recommend it for use on the floor.
This striking example of early 20th-century textile art presents a powerful geometric study, capturing the evolving aesthetics of the period and moving away from traditional European or Oriental designs toward a distinctly modern, regional style.
The palette is rich and saturated, utilizing deep, contrasting hues that define the quilt’s bold structure.
The design utilizes an allover structure, where the geometric motifs repeat seamlessly across the entire field without a defined central medallion. This repetitive, rhythmic quality is characteristic of the shift towards abstract and modern design principles seen in American textile production of the era.
Condition: Good.
