Antique Allover Floral Square 1880s Wool Ivory Beige Cream White Hand Knotted Pile Rug, Circa Date: 1880s. This exceptional example of antique rugs captures the refined aesthetic of the late 19th century, showcasing master craftsmanship in its finely knotted wool construction.
The central design is characterized by an elegant allover pattern of interconnected vines and stylized palmettes, creating a sense of continuous movement across the field. This dense, symmetrical arrangement is highly characteristic of sophisticated Persian-influenced designs of the period, offering visual depth without relying on a central medallion.
Framing the field is a sophisticated border system featuring deep indigo reserves filled with repeating floral motifs and contrasting guard bands in rich madder tones. Given its generous proportions, this square piece functions beautifully as a true room size rug, anchoring a formal living space or dining room with historical elegance.
The masterful use of color, particularly the luminous ground shade of ivory beige cream white, allows the secondary colors—such as soft rose, pale blue, and sage green—to emerge with remarkable subtlety. This square rug is a testament to enduring quality, offering both historical value and timeless decorative appeal.
