Aubusson Rugs

Aubusson rugs are elegant hand‑woven carpets named for the historic weaving center of Aubusson in central France, where master artisans have practiced their craft for centuries. These rugs are traditionally created using a flat‑weave tapestry technique, which produces a smooth surface ideal for rendering intricate floral bouquets, ornate medallions, and neoclassical scrollwork inspired by European decorative art. Antique Aubusson pieces were prized in royal and aristocratic interiors throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, reflecting the refined tastes of their eras with soft pastel palettes and harmonious compositional balance.

Their tapestry‑like construction — often wool and sometimes accented with silk — allows for highly detailed motifs and a graceful aesthetic that brings both historical depth and timeless sophistication to interiors.

Antique Aubusson rugs embody the refined grandeur of 18th-century French design, known for their subtle pastel palettes, delicate floral sprays, and elegant medallion arrangements, making them the pinnacle of neoclassical luxury.
