Antique Art Deco Chinese Allover Floral Purple 1920s Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This striking Art Deco carpet, hailing from the 1920s, is defined by its extraordinarily deep, saturated purple field. The use of such a vibrant hue, complemented by contrasting accents, marks a departure from earlier, more restrained palettes.
The composition features a sophisticated allover design, where stylized floral sprays and auspicious emblems—including butterflies and vases—are scattered across the expansive field. This piece represents the finest tradition of antique rugs from the Republican era, showcasing a masterful balance between negative space and intricate detail.
A complex border system frames the central drama, utilizing tonal bands. The outer guard border repeats a delicate vine motif, providing a necessary visual anchor against the intensity of the main ground, while maintaining the geometric precision favored by the Art Deco movement.
Given its substantial dimensions, this room size carpet is ideally suited to anchor a primary living space or formal dining area. The exceptional clarity of the Art Deco palette and the plush wool pile ensure this piece functions as both a historical artifact and a luxurious, contemporary design element.
